Awkward visit!

On Satuday, we out out together (the whole family! in a long time). Anyway, it was nothing terribly exciting. Just went over to 2 family friends' house because our visits have been long over-due. Anyway in the first house, we met the aunty’s younger sister who recently arrived from Bangladesh. Didn’t get a chance to have an open chat coz aunty an ammu were around the whole time. It was so awkward to speak to her because I called her ‘apni’ on account that she’s a married lady and has a one year old boy. But it felt weird coz she’s even younger than afifa and zakia! *LOL* the way things are going, I’m starting to fell like an old SPINSTER around here. *lol*lol*

Anyways aunty’s (not her sister) older son’s voice cracked (he’s in year 6 now). Poor kid’s so embarrassed he wouldn’t open his mouth. He used to be quite a chatterbox with us before. And he’s starting to keep that distance with us now that he’s getting older. It’s sad! I’m losing all these little brothers! Anyway, he’s really smart and got in Sydney Boys (I even forgot to congratulate him). Did I mention he’s got a cute singing voice (rather he used to have). I still remember he and my brother sang a duet nasheed at last IPDC AGM. God knows if he’ll even sing again after his voice finished growing through the ‘cracking process!’

We stopped by Woolies to get some chocolates before going to the next place. Me and radia got out to get it while everyone waited in the car-park. A few minutes later, zakia rushes in and tells us to hurry because abbu started getting sick in the car. He filled a bag and ammu and Afifa were frantically looking for a bin to dispose it. Once we got to the car, amuu took the driving sit and we started off. Abby said, “right, we go in, we eat, we come out and go home. I think I’m gonna get worse. Maybe I should go to the doc.” Ammu says “we’ll drop em (that’s us) off at vabi’s then I’ll drive you to Lakemba Medical Centre.” Abbu truly got WORSE by the time we arrived at aunty’s place. He kept throwing up, filled two bags. Did I mention that I get really affected by the sound and smell of vomit i.e. it induces the same reaction in me! So, now abbu was throwing up in earnest and I was trying to block my nose, ears and my mouth in earnest (I felt my throat filling up a few times and had to force it down! Yuck!) Anyway, we did a quick job of visiting that family. This auntiy's older older son in in year 4 nd he's best friends with the other auntiy's 2nd son. He told u many funny stories about his best friend and made us promise not to tell him on account of his frind being super-sensitive. So we did have some laughs! We’re out of there house in 30 minutes (record time for us). Abbu didn’t end up going to the medical centre.

By all accounts, this was a strange and awkward visit. Now you know why we have so few family outings!

I must say, ur family outings are very interesting. We have so many 'family outings' in a week that I've lost count, but its only to nearby places - so even less exciting than ur outings.

You know when u sed that ur dad's worked 2getha BRRI, I was reminded of abbu and ammu's office: motsho bhobon (i dont know how u translate that - house of fish? lol, Mapu, ema, help!). It was a place for fisheries people and agriculturalists so surprize surprize my parents ended up there (them both being fisheries students at the university of agriculture). I remember that office to be so nice and clean when i was young. In 2000 when we went back to visit, the state of this building was terrible! Bhanga and rusty... But the scary things was that I recognised it immediately when we (unintentionally) passed by it - without anyone giving ANY clues!
